PILAR RIOJA'S CHOREOGRAPHIES

“RETABLO DEL MIRLO BLANCO”
Before the Spanish Civil war, in one occasion, in house of the Teacher Falla, where there were meeting all the intellectuals and artists of his time, the Teacher played a sonata of the Soler Father, when … the architect and musicologist Domingo José Samperio said to him, it would be good to find someone capable of touching the classical music with “castañuelas”, not as a simple accompaniment, but doing music with the “castañuelas” like soloist instrument. The Teacher, smiling, said that this was to find a “Mirlo Blanco”, hence the name of the spectacle. This Samperio idea was realized in Mexico with Pilar Rioja, who said that she would like doing it if she danced and not only touching the 2castañuelas” in a podium. Samperio choose the compositions and directed the “castañuelas”, mean while Pillar realized the choreographies by means of the “Bolera” School of the XVIIIth century. With the collaboration of the two it was created in Mexico and with a Mexican ballerina “ The Art of the Spanish Danced with Castañuelas in Concert ”. Choreographies and musicians of Sacarlatti, Casanovas Fhater, Mateo Albeniz, Soler Father, Cimarosa, Corellí, Albinoni, Marcello, Boccherini, Sarasate, Debussy, Beethoven, Halffter, Minkus, Paganini, Galles, Bach, etc.

“TEORÍA Y JUEGO DEL DUENDE”
Texts selection of Luis Rius as part of the conference with the same name and poems of the Romances Collection and some stage plays of Federico García Lorca, and a last fragment poem of Machado to the death of Lorca. This work consists of the passing from the Angel to the Muse up to coming to the “Duende”, inserting the texts and the dances. Intervene in the spectacle: Two actors, a Chamber orquest for the first part, Piano and Classical Singer for the second, Flamenco Guitars and Cantaores, two Actors and the Ballerina in the third one. Music of Bach, Corelli, Paganini, Vito de Nin, “Café de Chinitas” and Boleras Sevillian of García Lorca, “Anda Jaleo” of Federeico García Lorca, Tangos del Piyayo, Farruca and Siguiriya (Flamenco).

“DANZAS DE CUENTA Y CASCABE”
There are diverse testimonies of the big number of “Danzas de cuenta” and “Danzas de cascabel” that excited equally the nobility and the common people in XVI century. The moralists condemned them repeatedly and the authorities prohibited them so that they were offered in the “Corrales de comedia”. One of the most illustrious testimonies of this, was left to us by Miguel de Cervantes, who alludes to them and it even insert them in his “ Entremeses y Novelas” scenes of such dances, like “El Canario y el Rugero”. In the comedy “La Dama Boba” of Lope de Vega, already in the XVII century, Pilar presents a sung dance, dancing only to the compass of his poems, relying rhythmically on the refrain “Viene dePanama”. The sevillian andalusian variant in their origins of the castilian seguidilla, represent the continuity that the “Danzas de Cascabel” had throughout the XVII century, while the execution of Classical Fandangos as Bocherini, Soler and Granados, represents the dancing slope of those of “Cuenta”. Dancing both styles, there are exchanged Folk stylized Dances of popular origin of Nin-Culmell and Flamenco.

Also it covered different forums of province. The scenes that integratethe spectacle, seven in whole, are exchanged by the dances and have varied tones that cover a scale that goes from the burlesque to the serious thing, with texts of Santa Teresa, San Juan de la Cruz, El Conde de Villamediana, and other authors of the Renaissance epoch and the Baroque period.
